I am sure we will be seeing more of this in the future,as the stratification of our society grows.I wouldn't be surprised to start seeing separate bathrooms popping up in the future either.Historically, the rich don't really want to come in contact with the "help" any more than is necessary. The whole notion that we ever were an egalitarian society was an illusion that is rapidly being unmasked.

We are all just "the help" really.
It's amazing how society can regress in certain aspects and then have people who support it or okay with it...

Excuses like: condominium amenities (like that can't easily be dealt with), we always had servants quarters (can't be surprised with the comparison of poor people with staff or servants), or the classic "you must pay first class prices for first class accommodations: right because walking through the same entrance as higher paying residents requires just too much compromise and strain on the rich's lives. Let's see that philosophy expanded to areas that directly affect your life and see how much you're willing to accommodate that.

It's a very simple concept. When you spend more money you get more amenities. I don't know why the media or other people are making this out to be some sort of class warfare. Those with lower incomes are renting, so naturally they shouldn't have the same amenities as someone who is paying millions of dollars to buy an apartment.

Thank you for that obvious answer. However, that is a lame excuse: the developer can easily construct the building where whatever amenities he wants to give the rich are in locations where the whole population of the building aren't active. Being able to walk through the same entrance is not a special amenity, period.

Says who? Someone who is renting an apartment at dirt cheap prices should not have the same amenities, otherwise what's the point of having different price points and having the other buyers buy their apartment? The person paying millions should get a doorman for example and other amenities that you would expect to get paying that price for an apartment. The person renting should not expect to receive that unless they pay more for it.

But who are the beggars in this case? Let's keep in mind that without said group of people, this building would not have a chance in going up in the first place.

Amazing how some people don't get it. The people renting get to pay below market rent in Manhattan within walking distance to the action. The last thing they should be concerned about is having to use another door.

Why would anyone fork out big bucks to live here if the guy walking in the same door in front of you pays a quarter of what you are paying? Who'd buy that? No one. Would you eat at a restaurant where the guy sitting next to you pays $5 and they charge you $20?

They've got to distinguish it somehow.
