when i had a mouse in 1998 my co worker told me "tell the mouse 'I live here not you' so it has to leave". i caught 3 that year but after that they got wiser and avoided the traps. had them on and off till 2001. then for some reason no more after that. maybe they made their way downtown for 9/11 who knows...
bmwdcguy i will be going in within the next 7-10 days, they will remove the lung nodule and they will give me something called ipilimumab (yervoy) which is an immunosuppresant. it's not as harsh as what they were going to give me (interleuken II) but it can give you gut cramps but it will be done to prevent this from happening again, i guess if the nodule proves to be cancerous. i should be back to normal within 10-14 days of going in
and it sounds like i can go home on my own and have VNS come in to check on the wound like they did last year
i swear ive seen them described as immunosuppressants. by suppressant, doesn't that kind of mean that at first it suppresses the immune system which is why treatment like the Il2 i was going to have makes you very sick at first? like antibodies? you may be right however. also known as immunotherapy
maybe they won't even give me the yervoy if the nodule biopsy comes out negative. i will learn more on Monday when i see the surgeon. many lung nodules aren't even cancerous. in 1990 after my dads melanoma was removed he had a nodule in his lung. it was removed and it was non cancerous
kefir man i just saw your other post. if thats what you found that it is an immunostimulant. i haven't researched yervoy since last Sept when they were going to put me on it but then the pathology results showed i didn't need it. i am a bit concerned about the side effects of GI pain and possible damage to the GI tract but on the other hand ive read accounts who say its a miracle cure
and Dr Michael Schachter MD up in Suffern, NY has a plant based therapy i may check that out soon too
What it does it suppress the normal suppression of the immune system, if that makes sense. Hence it is an immune stimulant.
An overly zealous immune system can cause great pain and suffering, but in your case you want your immune system running on all 8 cylinders to kill any tiny cancer clusters, metastases, too small to have been detectable, at least for the time being.

How are they going to determine whether it's malignant? Needle biopsy, or something more invasive?
If it's not malignant they probably will neither take it out nor use any chemotherapeutic agent, even an immunostimulant. If just a benign cyst they will likely take no action at all, just leave it be.
<Fingers crossed for that result.>
i go under next Weds at 7:15 AM at Einstein Med Ctr. expected to be there for 3 days. my brother most likely will be taking me home but even if he couldn't make it the surgeon told me i could go home by myself in a cab. good news. wish me luck!!
