Last night around 6:30pm I was walking up Central Park West taking a "sanity" walk and noticed a few people huffing and puffing behind me. Low and behold it was a runner's mob/club doing their routine on the pedestrian sidewalk and not in the park. The stream of runners just kept on coming. One sweaty beast rubbed up against my arm and left me with her slime'y residue.
Is the the "new" runner's path ? Has the park gotten so crowded that runners have taken over the pedestrian walkways ?
This is new to me. Yet another area to avoid at specified times ?
I haven't seen "teams" of people running, but I have seen more runners than I used to on somewhat crowded pedestrian paths... It puzzles me that they don't use West Side Highway path or the Park to run. Running on the paths/streets causes a lot of stop and go and swerving in my opinion so it doesn't seem favorable as a runner either.
One runner running down the sidewalk is fine. Packs are not cool at all whether in the park or on the sidewalk. They mull down people with no care in the world. Some people really need to learn proper running etiquette. I run and yes the park is now very crowed all times of the day with runners, cyclist, tourists, and normal park go-ers. You know years back how the north part of the park was always pretty empty. Not anymore. The packs of runners and tourists on the bikes are the worst.
There is a huge running club that runs alongside the Belt Parkway on the weekends. Not sure if it's every weekend but I've seen them a few times. Tons of people.
Avoid? Just fill a couple of suitcases and walk them right down the sidewalk at the appointed hour.
