Good grief!! The majority of Transplants and hipsters DO NOT OWN the property. The property owners, land owners, etc are selling, renting, etc to the HIGHEST bidder. If you CAN"T afford it that is your issue. You can't cry about your neighborhood being overrun by transplants and hipsters when you DON"T own anything or have a decision on WHO moves in.
Yeah, they started in the late 1960's. Back then they were young, hip looking and liked to renovate old brownstones. By the 80's they were already coming south of 9th Street and turning old factories into condo's, My mom, who always spoke of how nice Park Slope was prior to WW2 loved the revival and luckily lived long enough to see the renaissance. And even though she didn't always understand the clothes or lifestyles she welcome them with open arms. The funny thing to me is that 40 years later 7th ave is still crowded with young, hip looking kids and I want to know what happened to the ones who landed on our shores back in the day. Have they all gone to age restricted communities?

They sold their places at a profit and moved to South Florida.
Hmmm. My grief with Transplants is that they take the lucrative professional jobs away from native New Yorkers. They folks make NYC very unlivable and way to competitive but also expensive.
ON the flip side there is a neighborhood in Brooklyn where about 20 cars have Iowa licenses plates.

They do? I work a lucrative professional job and two of my peers (on my team of six) are native New Yorkers. Companies hire the best fit for the job.

I live near where these cars are based, 25 Dollar Car Rental on 18th Ave. They've got nothing to do with Iowa, it's just an insurance fraud. The car rental operation itself is also illegal, I suspect. I hope they get shut down soon.
