I'm currently living in PA but am extremely motivated to move to NYC. I don't really want to move without a job but will if it comes down to it. So basically I was wondering if it is a good idea to use a NYC address on my résumé but still live in PA where my job is. I figured it might be easier to get a job that way. So what do you guys think?

Also if anyone that is was a good idea and would want to let me use there address it would be appreciated.

It might help a little bit—but if it’s a comparatively low-end job (clerical, restaurant, retail, etc.) employers want New York experience. It took me a while to get a job when I first moved to the city. Once I landed the first one I was offered jobs all the time (this was ten years ago). When I asked recruiters what the difference was they said that they don’t really look at people without New York experience.

It also depends on your industry. If you’re very well qualified and have a specialized skill set, it’s a lot easier to get hired from out of state.

I'd say go for it. I'd also get a google voice nyc number too to make you seem a little bit more 'legit'. I did this and without the NYC address on my resume I wouldn't have even gotten a phone call for the job I got. I just said I was subletting while looking for a job and that was the address I was using and would be moving to a permanent address once I found something.

It is easier to find a job with a local address usually especially lower level jobs.
