I lived in new jersey and worked in nyc.. when I was laid off I collected form nyc... being I didn't do a joint claim for both states and now that my nyc benefits have ended can I open a claim in new jersey being I never used those funds? PLEASE HELP!!

Did you work in NJ? If not, then, as far as I know, you can't claim from NJ. Unemployment insurance is jointly financed through federal and state employer payroll taxes so if you haven't worked in NJ, you haven't paid any UI taxes. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure that's how it works.

no you can not collect from both.
you collect in the state you worked only.

My friend worked in NYC and lived out in Princeton NJ and got NJ Unemployment.

You must collect from the state you WORKED in.
If the distance is great, there is some reciprocation where you can collect from the state you live in and that state bills the worker state.

There is no such thing as NYC benefits...all benefits are STATE benefits.
OP...no you CANNOT collect from New Jersey.

I worked in New York and was laid off. I came to Florida and worked and also laid off. I applied in both states. Can I collect from both?

It really doesn't matter where you live, the only thing that matters is where the company is reporting your income and state they are paying unemployment comp. insurance.

I live in Morris county and worked in NYC- Macys. They have Macys in NJ. I just got laid off- can I collect in NJ

you collect where you worked . where ever you worked that is the state the employer paid in to the fund on your behalf .
