There is nothing heartless about reducing and mitigating the risk of a bad tenant by screening the best that you can. If all LLs did this you would not have nabes with rundown buildings and bad tenants who ruin it for everyone. The government has many options for those who cannot, will not, or otherwise unable to rent....I am not a homeless shelter..it is a business like any other..and has nothing to do with being loving or heartless.
If you are a native NYer and just now figuring this out....I find that the most disturbing of all.
