No matter how safe any city is, there will always be these random emotionally disturbed crimes. A few incidents does not make a crime wave.
I'm more worried about the sane criminals who want to mug my yuppie ass.
Another man tried to stab a woman and her baby Friday in Riverside Park.
So is the city safe as Bloomberg claimed? Are these crimes RISING? It sounds like you're try to evade both the question and the issue itself. Riverside Park has historically bordered some rough areas (Harlem, Washington Heights) and was never considered a safe place to go.
I never feared little fools in the street but I'm on guard ALL THE TIME against crazies. Soon as I spot one I'm in defense mode an I take all their threats seriously. The wrong one will leave you laying like gum on the concrete. Didn't help that the incident earlier in the summer -- in which a nut rocked an unsuspecting dude with a hammer -- happened just around the corner from my HQ.
on 231 and B'way a guy came up to me to ask me for something but i made it clear i wasn't listening. he was with a bunch of characters sitting on a bench in front of the B'way Eye Care store who were talking loudly about "all the money on Johnson Avenue". it was scary because it seemed like a gang of thugs deliberately coming to Kingsbridge/Riverdale to cause trouble. it was the first time i have ever seen this in all my years living here
I think its early to consider this a crime wave. However, I think the mayoral election has stirred emotions in some people and perhaps emboldened them a little to cause trouble in some cases.
I genuinely feel bad for the disarmed sheep. Our politicians don't want you to have any recourse against these dangerous people. Good luck.
Actually they want background checks.
That's going to make it safer for everyone except for crazies.
