To separate State and City. Actually, there is also a Metropolitan Commuter Transportation District surcharge of 0.375% in NYC and surrounding counties that's why the tax is 8.875 otherwise it should only be 8.5%

The sales tax in NYC is 8.875% so the rate is fine. But I'm not sure why it's broken down into two.
EDIT: Is it a suede bag? I don't know much about women's handbag but what's so special about this Celine bag? I don't even see the brand name.
Yup. I'm not a bag fanatic like some women, but the consensus on why it's so popular from the Purse Forum blog says it's more about its understated logos, beautiful craftsmanship and design:

I spent $350 on a leather Coach bag. I treated myself a few years ago when I got my promotion and bonus. The leather is like buttah lol..I hate bringing it on the train and only use it on weekends from time to time. I just bought a tan leather Big Buddah bag. Didn't realize how BIG it is. I can pack 3 bath towels in it and use it as a beach bag. Can't imagine spending $2500 on a bag that I would worry might get damaged by rain or scratched.
I got my Galaxy 3s in January after my other phone completely died. I paid $189 for it. In May my sister got the 3s for like $90. Always best to wait. My daughter has an iphone--I'm clueless with Apple and too many bugs after the 7ios update.
I got the S3 in July for $149 and then got a $50 rebate. The 4 was out already but I was OK with the 3. Still happy with it, too.
But I wouldn't pay $350 for a belt or $2500 for a bag! The horror!
Back to topic, Barney's needs to get their butt kicked for this one.

When I order online I always tell them I'm white.
But I get an even better tax break when I tell them I'm from the Caymans.
Another black shopper was tackled by four cops when she left the store with her purchase.
So Barneys is lying that they had nothing to do with calling the cops, because she said the cops were asking her questions, while on the phone with someone from the store.
Apparently the cops learned nothing from the Stop-n-Frisk case. I'd love to hear about how buying a handbag with a card that properly verifies amounts to probable cause or even reasonable suspicion for a stop.
I just don't understand why (in BOTH cases) the items were given to the youngsters IF fraud was suspected.
Yah, that bothers me too.
Perhaps the clerks don't think they can handle a dicey situation so they let the cops do it. It transfers liability somewhat.
Was it the president who said he understands how it is to be followed around a store because of skin color?
You all realize that 99% of people who work in Loss prevention at these stores are black, right?. SA doesnt decide when to call the cops. Loss prevention people do
