Nicest trains are probably the 1 and N.

4,5,6 are the worst! with, amongst those three, the 4th being the most overcrowded.

In terms of cleanliness, I can't recall one in my 10+yrs of riding the MTA trains. IN terms of filth, the D train wins the title hands down.

Rudness is highly variable but is mostly consistent, on all trains, with both morning and afternoon rush-hours.

I'm guessing lazy writers didn't feel like going too far from the office to rate stations

id guess that the 3rd/lex and 63rd street station is the nicest but the station is too deep down and triggers panic attacks

Too 80ies for me. It's more like the DC or Philadelphia system than a traditional NYC station. Really don't like it even if it's clean & functional.

(BTW the station on Roosevelt Island is even cleaner and deeper)

lmao!!! This is the TRUTH!!!

I lived in the Bronx for many years but always traveled to Manhattan (esp. Harlem) during my days off from work. So, I'd inevitably stop at the 125th/Lexington Ave station via the 4/5/6. Whenever I entered or exited that station, regardless of the time or day, there were people screaming, fighting, begging for money, tap dancing to get free hot dogs (this is 100% true!), talking to themselves, and any other form of nuttiness you can imagine. My best friend, who lives in that area, commented once, "At that stop, everyone is either on something or selling something!." If you're not used to the area, it can be pretty intimidating, lol.
