It took the 1-2 punch of Guilliani and Pataki (both Republicans) to REALLY whip this City into shape and pass policies that helped improve and clean up NYC. With De Blasio as Mayor, he will without a doubt cater to the Union's needs and sign off on GENEROUS contracts full of perks, benefits and inflated pensions at the TAX PAYER'S EXPENSE. Also, let's not forget De Blasio's alliance with the notorious left-winged group ACORN!!!!!!!!!!!!
That in itself should tell you what De Blasio is all about.

His accomplishments? He hasn't been elected yet. You need to take a breath.
He'd have, you know, be elected first before he can actually evince any of the change that he is campaigning on.
I'm all for positivity. But I think much of the momentum behind DeBlasio comes down to the lower overall crime rate.
Law and order issues have been the bread and butter for Republicans campaigning in NYC. Now, that we're in a period of relative peace, social issues will dominate putting the campaign in the Democrat wheelhouse.
Perhaps DeBlasio will be a great mayor. Maybe not. But let the man govern first before naming any airports after him.

What an immeasurable talent you have. Do you perform at parties as well?
Personally, I thought sarcasm was distinguished by some level of wit. But I'm new to CD. Obviously, I hadn't read the level of the room.

The unions have been screwed the last 5 years of Bloomberg when it comes to pay.
The inflated pensions are a thing of the past, but it will be 100 years before the last Tier 4 employees are no longer withdrawing money from the state. For the blame the decision makers of 30 years ago.
As far as health benefits + TDAs NYC certainly has wiggle room with those. They are more generous than most standards, but even cuts of 10-20% won't be huge enough to offset the other two categories.
Bloomberg passed the bill for 5 years, and now the time has come to pay, with interest.

Blasio also spoke against destruction of New York Public Library's Central Library Plan after architectures filed lawsuit against NYPL for Central Library Plan.
Bill de Blasio is only animal lover who wants NYC Horse Carriage off the street.
Because of most animals activists and Anyone But Quinn teams made this happen and bad Quinn was defeated.

Yes, de Blasio will give the unions raises. But you are forgetting nothing in politics is free. De Blasio can't raise taxes without state approval, and federal FUNDING to all city programs is being cut.
So what will de Blasio do? The unions will get their raises, but there will be cuts. Where possible the city and state will continue to use technology to replace people. Have you been on the subway recently? Most token booth clerks are gone, and there maybe a day when they are all gone. Replaced by token booth machines. You used to have to wait on long lines to get a new copy of your driver's license. Now you can order online. The internet and other technologies have even changed the way the state does business.
Oh, and NYC's revival in the 1990s wasn't just do to Giuliani and Pataki. Gingrich pushed welfare reform through Congress, and Clinton signed it. After the fall of the Soviet Union, you had a massive privatization of state owned companies around the world. And what American city was seen as the capital of finance? New York. So you had a boom economy and massive spending by the financial sector. That helped big time.
There's another reason why the unions will get their raises. Aside from people who are rich, public sector unions ARE New York's middle class. Teachers, cops, firemen, city clerks, courtroom clerks, sanitation, MTA workers, cuny professors, etc. The bulk of private sector jobs outside management or the corporate sector pay ****.
NYC is a city where you need to be rich, in a public sector union, or on welfare. Anything else is going to suck and be so unstable it is ridiculous. And you'll be living 8 or more people to an apartment.

Exactly. Scorsese of Mean Streets and Taxi Driver.
I'm a 1970s nostalgist. I want NYC to return to the days of drugs, filth, blood, crime, and hookers on the streets. That's why I like De Blasio.
I want to put up metal bars on my windows.
I want to be harassed while riding on the subway.
I want the underage runaways to start showing up again at the Port Authority Bus Terminal, to be picked up by predators.
I need the adrenalin rush, I need the ready access to drugs, I need the thrill of risking my life every day. I'm in my late middle age, and I need to recapture my youth. That's why I'm for De Blasio.

Personally, I think anybody with half a brain can see that the OP is nothing other than sarcasm. Read all of their posts on this thread again. The Beatles and Martin Scorcese? C'mon, friend. Get it together. Either way, here is an ostrich skiing...
