Does anyone knows if the area around Court Square in LIC is safe? I am considering renting from the Linc LIC apartment building on 43-10 crescent but I have heard some bad things about the area. Does the city still drop off rikers inmates nearby at Queens plaza? Should I be concerned by how close the queens bridge houses are? Any help or tips would be great, thanks!

Some parts of LIC still look slightly under-developed and can seem a little desolate and dangerous. I personally have never felt unsafe there though.

I have gone to MoMa PS1 a few times and gotten off at that stop. I also left late at night alone to go home from the 7 train and I didn't feel unsafe at all. Thats just my opinion on having been a few times.

Long Island City is a pretty safe part of town but you could certainly still get accosted on a desolate street late at night, especially if you seem like a victim

The area where that building is at is very safe. Everything over there is brand new.

That building is awesome by the way. I've been watching that get built for the past year and love all the amenities they offer. I just wish it was more in my price range

I worked at the Citibank building when it opened in 1989. My boss at the time was robbed at gunpoint walking to the Hunters Point station around 6:30 p.m. Granted that was a generation ago. The area seemed safe during daylight but even today I think you would want to stay out of desolated areas of LIC at night.

thanks for all the feedback! The gunpoint story is a bit worrisome but yeah that was some time ago. I'm thinking the area has improved but it still seems sparse in terms of stores and foot traffic

I work there and I don't feel that it's unsafe. The only thing is that weekdays after 8pm and on weekends it's absolutely desolate there. Not dangerous but just more like a ghost town. Further up on Vernon it's much busier with the bars and restaurants. Jackson Ave is busy during the day but does get quiet after hours. The area has changed significantly over the years--lots of filming in the area, bars and restaurants and new high rises have brightened up the area.

You could probably get robbed, hit by car, closer to work so it makes no difference if where you're living is safe.

Do you have trouble finding places to eat lunch or to shop in the area? I heard there aren't many options.
