My guess: Whenever they realized they could hogtie the public and profit even more.

lottery is a waste of money. Pretty sad when you see poor people who can't make ends meet scratching off tickets on Friday afternoon after getting their checks in the mail

10/22 = it changed.

I usually stick to the NY Lottery and Mega. They are still 1 dollar for a game. Only play powerball when it goes up to 200 million.

Mega Millions - Mega Millions to become even more mega, beginning with the October 22 drawing

Thanks Ryu,
I thought it was very recent.

That changes the odds so much that I won't waste my "single dollar over $100 Million anymore." It's now 1:259 Million for the jackpot .

I bought PowerBall only once since it went to $2 and that was when the prize approached a HALF BILLION.

I would always buy very early so that I had several days to daydream about Winters in the Carribbean and Summers in Paris, Berlin, Rome, Vienna, theater season in New York.
The fantasies were usually worth a buck.

So now, back to reality.

I bought one ticket a year so so ago when it was huge. Thats the only time I ever played. I'd rather play me some black jack. If only nyc had a casino with black jack tables.

It was very recent. They're justifying it by increasing the prize amounts. I won't be playing anymore. Now I'll just toss $1 at Lotto. The PowerBall being $2 is ridiculous but the odds are about twice as good as hitting the Mega Millions.

If I recall correctly, before they added all the extra numbers to the MEGA-MILLIONS game, the odds were almost identical to the Power Ball, about 175 million to one for the jackpot. And thus for the same amount of prize the Mega game was TWICE the value (since it cost half as much.)

For other reasons as well the MEGA was a better game. It pays a higher present value of annuity for any STATED prize and thus a higher discounted value if you take a lump sum..
In English this means that for $100,000,000 prize, you get more with Mega-Ball than Powerball.

Pedro Quezada of Passaic was the sole winner of the Powerball drawing last
spring, worth about $152 million after taxes.
I think the article left out an important fact: were they together last Spring?

I guess this will turn out to be one of the ultimate Palimony suits.

What is the right a girlfriend has over the dollar in your wallet? How about after one DATE? Curious to see how this works out.
