Walking to work? If that's high on the list of priorities that's fine but keep in mind the majority of NYer's don't walk to work and depend on the subway so that's something to keep in mind also. Plus, it's always nice to be commuting on a warm train instead of walking in the snow and cold during the wintertime.
Really? I'd prefer to walk to work any day of the year. You know exactly how long it will take to get there, no traffic issues, it's free, and good for you.

Real 1 bedroom. The layout is pretty decent for us too. As you walk in, the bedroom is to your right (behind the door). The corridor that leads to your left first has a bathroom and then has a living room/kitchen combo. Generally I hate living room/kitchen combos, but they're separated out by a "half wall". It kind of looks like they used to be separate but the management took the wall down - there are fresh paint marks where the wall would have continued.

It's not high on the list of priorities, but it's something I factored in. After driving to work in NJ for 3 years, and before that taking a bus, metro north then another bus, I'll definitely like having the option of taking a 20 minute walk to work. As you say it's not something one would do for the majority of the winter, but in the spring and fall? Why not?

Plus not worrying about traffic and the like would be awesome!

Ah yes, that area gets very nutsy when the Sun goes down. I watch as I scarf a couple slices of dollar pizza.
