This would be the area's last full service hospital. The problem is more than half the hospital's patients are on medicaid and apparently that doesn't pay enough money.

Weren't hospitals like this supposed to be the main support leg of Obamacare with vastly expanded Medicaid rolls for those who cannot afford mandatory private insurance?

Are there any other hospitals in Far Rockaway or even Rockaway?

No. There was one other hospital in the Rockaways that closed two years ago. So if this closes the Rockaways will have no hospitals.

I guess the demographics assured the hospital could not make ends meet. That's gonna be tough with emergency problems for Rockaway residents.
