It's that time of the year again when I can't enjoy the holidays because I need to SAVE in order to GIVE...JOY.

Last year I changed my game plan. I don't tip according to who is *supposed to get what. I tip according to who did WHAT for me.

Funny enough the SUPER ($100? U CRAZY) has done absolutely nothing for me this year and neither have the porters.

I have a dance instructor food servers barber doctors etc. etc. who get first dibs. They do A LOT for me.

I will give out over $1000 this year but to whom I give it to might cause waves within my circle.

Anybody else going against the grain when it comes to tipping this year ?

Nope.... you don't want to get single out by the people you depend on when you need their services. The
super and porters may not have done anything for you this year, but who knows what will happen in the
coming year. I will not want to be on the black list of the building staff who could easily sabotage my QOL
if I live in a building.

It is a very hard call to make.

Can see the OP's point, but as the other poster stated you want certain people to have your back all year. If they feel slighted at the holidays they may cut back on "looking out" in the new year. You also want to keep the building staff in sweet if for nothing else to keep any "secrets".

I mean if you want all doormen on each shift to keep eyes out for parking spots and so forth, it just may be worth it to dig deep and distribute.

Our cleaner, laundress, hair dresser, etc... persons you see all year long of course get something. We've had the same UPS guy for >15 years and he is wonderful, so he is on the list.

Past few years we've had a turnover of supers each one slightly less of use than the previous, so they never got anything. Latest one only arrived a week ago so we shall see next month.

Pavlov says tip modestly for the holidays and generously when they do something for you.

You tip your doctor??? I don't really tip any of those people for the holidays.

I will tip my super and the porters. Not $100 but something.

I have enough people to buy for as it is.

That sounds like a good idea too.

Oh Christ,

That time of year AGAIN?

ONE check for the staff of 33. Each year they publish the average tip per apartment and we stay above that...but not too far above.

Maybe you get prescriptions easier that way.
