Hi there,
I am looking for some advice please. We are in the process of applying for Visas. We intend on moving to Yonkers area but we are open to other good suggestions. I would hope to have an Irish Community for the children's sake. The kids are 10, 8, 4, and 3.
I would be very grateful if anyone could give advice on cost of living for a family in NYC. We have done intial costing but not sure if we are including all our costs. we are allowing the following expenses:
Electricity 250
Travel (Gas) 150
heating 150
insurance car 150
kids activities 225
Rent 2200
Health insurance 1000 (company pay other half of it)
Train 200
Broadband and cable 100
Food 800

I am unsure if there are other expenses we should be including . all the above are monthly expenses. we intend to buy a car when we get there. I have not included childcare as we will be juggling the kids between us.
At the moment we will be earning approx $1400 per week. do you think it will be tight to live on this wage? We dont really have a social life or anything like that at the moment so I have allowed nothing for socialising . Our biggest concern is to be sure we will be better off financially with our move so trying to be realistic with expenses etc.

The other query I have is that I will be earning approx 1200 before deductions so thinking I will take home about $900. I know that it is possible to claim some taxes back but not sure approx how much a year we should expect. We would be hoping to be able to save this money every year.

would be very grateful for any advice possible :-)

Woodlawn has a sizable Irish community and it is still affordable. You'll probably need a minimum three bedroom or a two bedroom that has a bonus room that can be used as a bedroom..I had one of those apts. Woodlawn is in the Bronx.
