Go over to Yelp.com and search, there are plenty of reviews of local area dry cleaners from local residents by neighborhood.

As with everything else in Manhattan prices are a reflection of the high cost of doing business in the City.

Perma-Press and Wash-and-Wear are your two best friends.

Midtown East is one of the most expensive neighborhoods in the most expensive borough in the most expensive city in the United States. There is no free luch and there is no cheap dry cleaning.

The handy thing is that most places post their prices. I'm engaged in an eternal search for a bulk dry cleaning place. If you find one, let me know.

Otherwise, if you don't mind going a bit south, you might try Eroika, which I think is on 26th Street between Second and Third.

By local law dry cleaners and laundries must post their prices and or have copies to give to consumers.

Dry cleaners/laundries face the same high costs of real estate as any other Manhattan business. This on top of labor and other costs makes the business one with a very tight profit margin. It is no wonder you have either large services like Madame Paulette or small mom and pop shops were the business is run and mostly staffed by immigrants, their families and so forth.

You'll notice more and more places are closing or mostly are drop off for bulk laundry/dry cleaning services. A small shop today just cannot do the business it takes to make any serious money.

As for prices at least on the UES am seeing plenty of dry cleaners/laundries with signs in windows/in front offering discounts. A place on Third is offering shirts at $.79 or was it $1.79?
