I'm going to be staying in Secausus, New Jersey with my family on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

I'll be visiting Rockefeller Center for sure and Little Italy very likely. What are some other fun or must-do things to enjoy the season in New York City during that time?

Shopping. There are holiday pop-ups like in Union Square.

Ice skating.

There are a few neighborhoods known for their Christmas lights like Dyker Heights.

5th Avenue Store fronts. Macy's.

On Christmas day may things are closed. See the city Christmas Eve, although things will close earlier than usual.

Haha! Actually if you don't want to go anywhere but simply wonder around nyc holidays are the best. The streets are so quiet and you can actually enjoy seeing the city.

Movie theaters are also open on Christmas Day. But as said it is a good day just wonder around and see the various Christmas displays around the city.

Wish people would stop going on as if the City goes on lock down from Christmas Eve evening until Boxing Day.

Yes, shops and many businesses are closed, but there are still many bars, restaurants, clubs, movie theaters and other entertainments that are open.

Unlike Thanksgiving which is an ecumenical holiday Christmas mainly affects Christians and not all of them celebrate it on the same day. This leaves Jews, Hindus, Muslims and countless others free to do what ever they want on December 25th. At least in Manhattan Christmas is a huge business for more than just shopping. Many persons come to NYC just for the holiday or the season to do the sights and what not.

Actually much more businesses are open on Thanksgiving than Christmas.
