Does anyone know if landlords are supposed to supply appliances such as refrigerators and stoves? My Fridge just died, but my previous roommate left it for me and now I have to replace it. Before I fork over 500+ dollars on a new one, I would like to know if the landlord is responsible or am I responsible for replacing it. My previous roommate said there was no fridge in the apartment when he moved in.

Is the apartment regulated or market rate? The rules may be different. You should check Tenant Net, but I'm pretty sure that in NYC apartments must include a working fridge.

As far as I know, if there was no fridge when you moved in, he doesn't have to provide a fridge. He has to maintain all the appliances that are IN the apartment. I'd also check the lease... if the lease mentions a fridge he has to maintain one.

BUT - it doesn't hurt to ask, does it? Maybe he would replace the fridge.
