I just moved to NYC. How do people go about making friends in a city where people are constantly on the go and into their own thing with established groups of friends (it seems)? Besides work, I find that I'm not in many places or situations that are conducive to friend making.

What do you all think?

because of the things you cite it is not easy. often when the end of the day comes the only thing on peoples mind is to get out of work and get home often to a distant place. You would be better advised to find people in your neighborhood around your age to befriend. Where do you live

Literally 90% of "clubs" in New York exist for this purpose. Road runners, kickball league, etc.

Its very easy for Transplants to make friends with other Transplants. First of all many Transplants have a couple of things in common like why they move to NYC, having a college degree, and last we are not from here. For us native New Yorkers most of our friends are either from our neighborhood, or long last established friendship going back to high school.

Everything is contrived and pre-planned. You won't find many people just hanging out which works best for me. You need to sign up for something ($) or go to the same bar over and over.

NYC is not an easy place to meet people and when you do quality varies greatly ! Just look how un natural it is.

I used to be into the party scene. Anybody I knew I met at a club. Thank God I don't know most of those people any more. LOL

Get on NYC CD forum and send befriending PMs. Have you not noticed that e-friendship is the trend of today's social life? Most bars will disappear in a generation or two per my prediction.

I have been wondering what is % of native New Yorkers without a college degree? I did notice that a lot that I came across did not attend college.
