DSNY have had 90% parity with NYPD & FDNY, as long as I can remember.
I can also remember one of my HS teachers, who had 2 Masters degrees, quietly closing the classroom windows, due to sanit workers banging all the cans around outside, sighing and saying "I'd yell at them, but they make more money than I do."

hard to compare. one is physical labor. other is mental labor & more labor of love imo.

yeah my sister said the school was time consuming. She did say the years of schooling was a breeze though...esp the 2nd master for the salary bump

Anecdote: my stepfather just retired from DSNY after 20 years, at age 53. His body is so worn down, you'd think he's 15 years older. All from the job. We were surprised he made it to the 20 year mark. His back and shoulders are in awful shape with all kinds of medical complications.
My friend's father retired early from DSNY at 15 years because of his back. All sorts of issues there as well.
It's hard work. Both men stay at home all day and hardly do anything physical.
Yes, they receive pensions, and were paid very well, but it certainly came with a QOL cost in their 50s and on.

Oh I don't know about that.

We had one that was obviously in some sort of "transition" because you could see clearly he or she had a bust line through that uniform. Being a trannie garbage men or woman one supposes is no huge deal, I mean to each his or her own, but the guy should at least had a shave and tried to make the rest match that bust line. An unshaven man with a bosom is just too much to explain to the children first thing in the morning. *LOL*
