True. It's just that compare to other neighborhoods that are near bad areas, such as Ridgewood, it's more common there.
Thats because different demographics in Ridgewood. For example, that's why kids who live around my way don't go to Belle Harbor to cause trouble even though it's a 15 minute bus ride.

I was considering the demographics, but I wasn't too sure if I wanted to go that route. But it makes sense: I know my Caribbean peeps in Southeast Queens have a lot of parties where things can and do pop off.

Nahh dont sweat the PC. It is what it is. Black people really don't mess with Ridgewood like that. I personally have been there twice in my 32 years...and one time was because I was lost....I personally just have no reason to go

In my college class, the prof. said that people unconsciously adjust to the stereotypes created for them. Perhaps the things that happen in Southeast Queens are a result of black teens unconsciously resorting to violence because that is the stereotype set for them. It's called "stereotype threat"

There is some merit in that argument. Some black immigrants found out, to their dismay, that their SONS raised in the USA, where being black carries a certain image, have a very different view of themselves than their middle class cousins back home. And I can say the same for those who migrated to Canada, and the UK.
There is something about growing up as a black male in these white dominated societies. Females from lower middle class backgrounds seem less impacted by this.

Trust me, I know how bad Newark was last year. I've heard and seen enough things myself last summer.
OT: The year has only begun and it's traditional for a lot of homicides to happen within the first week of the new year, so I wouldn't be too alarmed yet.
Just because there has been a bad start it doesn't automatically mean that there will be a 75% increase.
Of course anything could happen, but it is too early to know: last year Chicago started with several homicides, but overall 2013 was a good year for the Windy City.
