According to CBS, all 3 major airports are open but many flights are canceled with many stranded passengers.

So the storm was pretty much a bust in NYC. Looks like about 6" on average, what a dud. You'd have thought it was the snowpocalypse the way the media was hyping it up and politicians were grandstanding and closing highways like dictators

Some points from Mayor De Blasio's press conference Friday morning:

He gives thanks to various parties/people dealing with the situation.

First significant snowfall of the new year and has left the city a bit short of 10 inches of snow. The snow has ended but travel conditions are still difficult and people should not be on the roads if they can help it. Stay home if possible so that the sanitation workers can do their jobs more easily. If you need to travel please use public transportation even though there are some delays.

Sanitation workers are still working 12 hours shifts and have 6200 miles of roadways to clear. They will continue until everything is clear.

100% of primary roads have been plowed as well as 92% of secondary roads. There will be no sanitation pick-ups until all roads have been cleared of snow.

Parking meters are in effect as usual although alternate side parking rules are suspended today.

Do not shovel snow into the street. Put the snow on the sidewalk.

For snow problems/issues call 311. All non-emergency situations call 311. Only call 911 for emergency situations only.

City offices are open and functioning. All CUNY classes are canceled. NYPL branches will open at noon. Queens Libraries are open normally.

All after school programs are canceled today.

The Staten Island ferry is operating on a modified rush hour schedule.

It is the coldest that is has been this year. Don't underestimate the cold and it will get colder when the sun goes down. By the evening the temperature will go down to zero and with the wind-chill factor will be in the negative numbers.

If your building has no heat call your landlord and/or 311. Do not improvise with other heating methods.

Senior Centers are closed. Please help your senior neighbors.

Walk very carefully when you are outside. Best option is to stay home. It is very cold in the parks right now. So stay close to your home.

My office is closed today. A bit of an overreaction, in my opinion.

Remember the very recent storm back on 2012 Christmas Eve? I did not hear a warning of it beforehand until coming out of my friend's house walking in knee-deep snow. And NYC was paralyzed for a few days except a few roads cleaned in Manhattan. There is a lot more fuss over this 6" inch of snowfall this time.

As Mayor De Blasio said in his press conference this morning that if it weren't for the particularly cold temperatures perhaps less of fuss would have been made of this storm.

Mother Nature gave De Blasio a very easy new year test. He cannot afford to fail this one if he wants to continue his mayoral journey for the rest of his term.

They have cried wolf so many times that we take the dire forecasts with a grain of salt (or a hundred thousand pounds of salt on the roads.)
This one seems much the same.

It's horribly cold, but that's about it...not much snow.

I went to work today, it wasn't that bad. I took the train. Some people came in, not everyone...but they all have to either take it as a personal day or make it up, and I got to play on CD all day long.

Tell me who the smart one is. I didn't think it was that cold out either. Nothing we haven't experienced before, I mean it is January.

I'm leaving at 4 today.

I was hoping to play with the jeep..
