I don't know about lottery apartments but I know with nycha you need full custody for them to put you on the war list for an apartment with another room. I would suggest calling the development tomorrow and explain your situation
I currently reside in an apartment I got via the lottery and I was told that the only way I could "upgrade" was if I had a child. Otherwise no. But your landlord may be different so I would still try
Jkid84NYC is correct. I live in an apartment I got through the 80/20 program, it's a one bedroom which was fine for me and my husband. We recently had a child and asked my landlord if we could transfer to a two bedroom, but the system doesn't work that way. We've been applying for a two bedroom apartment for over a year without any luck. I say you might have to go through the entire process again.
These buildings aren't like the projects where the supply of larger units still at affordable/low income rates would be in theory larger. The supply of two bedroom units in an 80/20 building are what they are when the developer and City sit down to work out numbers. The only way one would open up is if the current "affordable" tenant or tenants moves out or dies. Even then it is highly likely that the process would be opened up again to choose a new tenant say from a waiting list.
In the grand scheme of things the OP has already benefitted once from gaining an "affordable/low income" unit in a luxury building. To allow him or her to move up to a larger unit just because they are already tenants could be seen as inside baseball.
