Saint Nicholas Terrace is not the same area. St. Nicholas Terrace ends on 141 St, but most buildings are south of 138th street.

It is also a rough haven over there. Lots of drug activity, robberies, vandalism and car break ins. I used to frequent St. Nicholas Park over there to walk my dog but had to stop because they started robbing people at gunpoint and groups of young people jumping on anyone who looked unfamiliar. Another friend of mine has a nice apartment over there and there was a rash of car break ins and vandalism. They broke into her car, stole her radio and iPod.

Good luck. It's not an area I would consider.

St Nick Terrace is very unsafe for the most part. I think it is worse than 149th and St Nick because it is more isolated and away from the main Avenues.

I went to this area last night, walked around and visited a couple of pubs. I found everyone to be very nice. Like every neighborhood, there is good and there is bad and as long as you have a good head on your shoulders and don't go looking for trouble I would say that this part of Harlem is a good choice (it has changed dramatically over the years).

^ You went there for one night and had a great time. I am happy that you had a nice time. But I disagree that this neighborhood has changed dramatically over the last few years. It takes a little more than a good head on your shoulders over there. There have always been good people there and they know how to survive over there. This is a young woman that is not from the area.

St Nick can be real shady at night. I generally avoided walking around there at night. There is a police precint right near the train station on 145th and St. Nick, and there always seems to be cops around at night, but you still definitely have to be carefull around there at night.

Just within that area, generally with the exception of the shady Hamilton Place stretch, the further west you go the safer it is. Convent, Amsterdam, Broadway, Riverside, all have better reps than St. Nick.
