I believe they are still $50. I had one for Costco and one for BJs a few years ago and I don't think I used them that much. I do know that some things are not really helping me save money, and I can just get them for cheaper elsewhere (like at my local grocery), but there are other things still available that may make it worthwhile (like those frozen turkey burgers with Rosemary).

Hook the Costco membership up with an AMEX card and get cash back for everything that you buy on the card.

I think it depends on the size of your household. You can wind up buying a lot of stuff you don't really need and storing it for so long it goes bad and you want to throw it out.Not much savings there.Giant bottles of ketchup turn brown and nasty looking after being stored for too long.

My Amex card is hooked up with my Costco card. I get cash back at the end of the year for anything that I buy on the Amex card. Not just at Costco but at other stores too. Check it out.

I believe that you can add an additional person on to the card without paying an additional fee. Add your husband/wife/child so they can shop with out you.

i love my Costco membership. I find that I get very good prices on things, but I definitely must make sure I have the storage room for "goods on steroids". I also like services that Costco offers. Their eye glasses are priced well, as are photo services. All in all, an excellent annual expenditure.

definitely depends on size of household. my mom has a membership. she's become sort of a hoarder ever since. the house looks like a baby version of those Extreme Couponers' houses on that show.. there are only 3 of us in the house, and we are all adults (i think Costco is only really necessary if you have 2+ kids). Whenever we go, our cart literally has 4 or 5 things in it. i feel like such a bonehead next to the people who have 2 carts full of stuff. Pretty sure she's not saving money in the long run.. but i guess she just likes being a member lol.

Yes and no.

It depends on the size of your family and what you guys consume. For example, Costco helped me out big time when my son was a baby with diapers and pull-ups. Certain things are very good to get from Costco. Toilet paper (30 rolls for 15 bucks) garbage bags (200 bags for 13 bucks), laundry detergent, batteries, deodorant, starch to spray on your clothes, dishwashing liquid. Stuff like that lasts a long time and doesn't perish. I honestly buy garbage bags only every 1.5 years now.

For food, my family eats a lot of eggs, we use a lot of butter, we use the Foreman grill often so we get cooking spray. BBQ sauce, ranch, Grey Poupon, frozen pizzas, bacon, hot dogs, cereal, we consume those things a lot so to get them at Costco is worth it to me. I have a small shelving pantry area and a deep freezer in my kitchen so I can stack some stuff away too, that helps.
