Access to a number of different kinds of stores without travel once you start and protection from the elements. Don't get me wrong I am not a big mall shopper but they clearly have their place as has been
proven by the rest of America. People here have to get out of their heads that everything done the NYC way is the best way because it is not always true.

I grew up in a suburb in the Midwest, it's not like I'm unfamiliar with malls. But we already have all the chain and big box stores a person could want, usually clustered together. Avoiding a few seconds in the rain hardly seems like a reason to radically alter the character of the city, to me anyway.

But I don't feel strongly about malls either way. I've just been surprised that every time a big site is being eyed for development, without fail, a bunch of people want to build a mall there.

I answered to particular OP question : Going to Brooklyn....Any good shopping areas....malls.
I really don't know - where is something better in Brooklyn. Perhaps, along 86th street between 4th Ave. and Fort Hamilton pkwy in Bay Ridge. Or maybe, along Kings Highway between E. 8th St. and E.16th St. Both areas are "shopping streets" with many stores including boutiques.

LOL, shopping mall + brooklyn does not go together. There is that ghetto piece of mall in sheepshead bay that's about it.
