So i know i want to get into marketing and i have a few ideas for what i might.study in school and if either one has good chances in NYC.

1.Regular marketing.i was thinking double majoring in marketing and finance. I chose finance because everywhere i looked it seemed that was a better choice then accounting. What do you think.

2.Sports marketing. I was thinking dounle majoring in sports management and marketing. Possibly minoring in another course that could help me in that goal as well? Any help?

Any help with either one or the other or both would be great thanks in advance.

If you are good at piling fruit neatly, you've got it made in marketing.

It depends on where you are going to school. In general Finance is a better choice but understand if you come to NYC you will be competing with kids who have that degree from the Ivy League schools. So tell us where you are going to school. Sports marketing while it sounds sexy in school is a complete and utter waste of time unless your work summers for 4 or 5 years with a minor league baseball team. Sounds like you are just starting your education. Is that right ?

Grammar lessons might be a good idea too.

I think you may want to take it 2 years at a time in school. You say you didn't do that well in high school and I'm not judging, there are numerous reasons someone may do poorly in high school then move on to something much greater later on in life. My biggest concern would be your degree choice, sports marketing I don't think there are a lot of openings for so I do think you could be wasting a bunch of your time and money.

The greatest thing you could do with that degree in New York would be to market the damn Jets to a Super Bowl appearance. New York is a city of entertainment and finance, both their football teams actually play in New Jersey.

I am UMASS (Boston) degree holder (Masters) and that sounds like a good plan--- you will not really have to decide until you get past Holyoke Community--- The real specialization in business would come if you went to graduate school-- everything up until then should be an open book and try a little of everything till you see what you really like--- it will not help you in the initial job search to have either of those since businesses will expect you to come in as a generalist and then move to be a specialist--- you could major
in business administration--- get a job in a finance organization and then at night go get your masters in finance--- it will have a lot more meaning then when you are dealing with the real world--- if you concentrate in finance you may never get a job in finance and it will not be as useful--- hope that was helpful.
