Totally outrageous...we have the sort of service you get in 3rd world countries.

Sanitation services stinks (no pun intended) in NYC...in every way. The sanitation guys are bad, the pickup is bad, and the fact that they can only do one thing at a time is totally unacceptable. Recycling one day a week? I am hoping one of DeBlasio's initiatives is to completely revamp sanitation in this city!!!!

EXACTLY.

I saw from my window one Saturday morning the garbage men picked up a bag and it broke and papers were all over, and one looked at the other and the other made a hand movement like, awww leave it, lets go.....

When I opened the window and yelled out: yo man, don't leave it there, clean up!.....then he asked if I was the super because the bags were cheap, I said no, but I pay a lot of money to live here now clean it up......he did pick up as much as he could, I then got my camera and said: smile...I took pictures and got the ID number from the truck and called 311....

dont know if that did any good, but made me feel better.

so yeah, the sanitation guys suck.

It does no good...they are union guys and short of murdering someone (and getting caught AND confessing) they won't get fired, and even if they did..they still get their pension, which is what it's all about it.

Here's an example of my sanitation woes:

I cut a small tree down (about 10 foot peach tree) in my backyard...cut into pieces, tied it up and put it outside the night before pick up. There were 4 large piles that reached about 3 feet high along the curb..as in...you can't miss it! Sanitation picked up all the garbage and left the tree! I called 311 and the sanitation inspector showed up with one of the guys on my route. I came outside and the garbage man immediately started yelling at me "that wasn't there this morning." I turned to the inspector and said "Would you like to see the camera footage?" (I have cameras expressly for these things). He came into the apt, I played the footage of me taking it out the night before, and then sanitation coming by, taking all the bags around it..walking past it twice, and then leaving. He apologized and went on his way. What happened to the guys? Nothing..still on my route..and still doing a shi**y job as ever. They don't care..they are untouchable.

HELP DEBLASIO!

We aren't supposed to take organic wood. The dumps can't dispose of them properly and there is some rule about the spread of bugs that the tree might be carrying or something. Most of us will throw it in the truck anyway but some newer guys follow the rules to the t and would leave the tree. Just like a refrigerator or air conditioning with the cfc still in it. There are certain items that require special pickup , tree is one of them. I'm really not going to defend us anymore with you people who clearly know everything. Your right, in fact I'm going to work tonight to figure out more ways to make your life harder lol get real, 90 percent of us to go in and fill the truck with garbage. What else would you like us to do?!

That does not apply in the Bronx...they can and do take wood and trees in this borough. A tree does not require special pickup any more than bulk items do...they are bundled and put out on the proper night. Nothing more.

It is not surprising that a sanitation guy does not know the rules....and doesn't care to...and that is exactly the problem!

Per the website: searching for "tree limbs" DSNY - FAQ - How Do I Dispose Of...

How Do I Dispose of...

Search Results: tree limbs
branches/tree limbs (do-it-yourself)
Sanitation can't collect firewood and wood from trees growing on residential properties in Brooklyn and Queens due to Asian Longhorned Beetle infestation. Schedule an appointment with Parks & Recreation for free on-site chipping and disposal in designated areas. All other areas can discard this material as bulk refuse on regular trash days (it can be collected separately in organics collection pilot areas). Branches must be bundled 2 feet by 4 feet or smaller.

Maybe your san men know how much of an ******* you are, so you are just getting that quality service in return.

I do not work in the Bronx, but in my borough we are instructed to leave trees for a different truck, our miscellaneous truck takes them, not our household Refuse truck. I can only speak to the pickup rules in my district which I do happen to know very well. Listen at the end of the day I think the point is that with every job there are people who excel and people who slack. The people who got their trash picked up 2 days after the snow are probably very happy just like the people who got their streets plowed first. The fact is we can't pickup all the trash or plow all the streets in one night. Some people will always approve of the job we do (I get thank you's on the street all the time, and some people will always complain no matter what. What gets to me is these crazy conspiracy theories like we intentionally don't plow streets or leave trash out. It's crazy talk. I'm very proud of the work I do, I do my best to clear all the streets and keep the city that I love clean and safe. Maybe one day I'll come work in your district lol I guess I'm ranting now, sorry I don't really know what I'm looking for, I knew coming in that this was a thankless job. But your welcome anyway

Whether the sanman likes me or not is moot..they treat everyone equally shi!!y. My cameras serve me well. I do not believe in any of the conspiracy theories, but I do believe you can do two things at once....and part of the reason you can't is because the city keeps cutting heads in sanitation. But even when you were fully manned decades ago...service has always been abysmal.

PS-Everyone's job is thankless....except in your job you can be as shi!!y as you want and never get fired. Your welcome.

You sound like you need a vacation or something. Or perhaps a new career. I think the Dsny test comes out next year.

I need a lot of things....most urgently to hit the lotto for $50M. A new career or job is certainly not one of them.
