Some of the main points of this afternoon:
NYC is facing 3 snowstorms this week.
The snow is coming down very rapidly today and it is hard for the snow plows to keep up with it. The plows are also slowed down by the workday traffic. Please use mass transit if possible. After rush-hour please stay off the roads if possible. It is easier to plow the streets if there no cars on the roads. Please be careful if you are walking.
The snowstorm started at 5AM and is predicted to continue until 7PM but will start to tape off earlier in some parts of the city.
The windchills are not as bad as previous snowstorms (since Mayor de Blasio took over the city).
175,000 tons of rock salt is available to help clear the snow.
Alternate side parking is suspended today and tomorrow. Parking meters remain in effect.
Garbage and recycling is canceled because of the plowing.
All property owners are reminded that they are required to plow the sidewalks in front of their properties.
Senior centers will be closed after lunchtime. The meal providers will deliver meals today but there may be delayed due to the snow.
After school activities for children are canceled today.
There will be more updates as the day goes on.
The response to the first storm on Jan. 2nd was very good. But the response to the last storm wasn't as good. So the situation was reviewed and there are some decisions due to that including the cancelation today of garbage and recycling collection. There is new routing for snow removal.

After the perceived debacle on the UES from the last storm, I'm seeing lots of plows going by today.

They did a much better job this time out. I don't know what that was two weeks ago.
