This is just insane. If there was a way to remove from this planet randi weingarten, mike mulgrew and all islamic terrorists, I'd push that button in a nano-second.

RETROACTIVE 4% raises? For a system that regularly finishes at the bottom of the industrialized world's rankings? It is insane that these fools want raises PERIOD, but retroactively is beyond the pale. This vermin thinks that with "their man" in the office, they are going back to the gravy train - but someone, somewhere, in the NYC government has got to step in and say "no."

At this point, there needs to be a state law passed to eliminate public employee unions, they are going to destroy this country if they are not eradicated like the cancer that they are.

Import teachers from states where a schoolteacher can't make 100 grand a year. We get tons of transplants and immigrants in this city. Our entitled, yet mediocre local teachers could use a swift kick in the ass to motivate them.

Let's see, teachers can't lift a finger outside of their narrow job description. refuse to do anything after 3 pm, and get the whole summer off for vacation. These are deplorable working conditions, the only logical thing to do is strike!

Couldn't even bump your own previous, insipid thread?

Were you beaten with a stick by some teacher, as a child?

Equating teachers & union leaders with terrorists is just foolish. OTOH, perhaps you're just jealous that some group of workers has an organization to advocate on their behalf.

All NYC public employees are working without contracts. They decided to wait out "no raises, no retro" Bloomberg and take their chances with the next, more pliable, mayor. Now that day had come.

Who? The city council? Their fingers are in the cookie jar, as well.

It's amazing that you would deny workers the opportunity to organize and negotiate. Unions have obtained all the benefits you enjoy, at whatever job you might have. Salary, benefits, vacation, overtime, holidays, sick leave, working conditions: none of these were just given to workers by owners and management. Many jobs operated the opposite way they do now: You started at low pay, and as time went on, you were paid less, as the boss sought to leverage continued employment versus being fired, with no severance or unemployment. Perhaps you should study labor history.

Anyone who believes that a well-compensated work force is a threat to this country is delusional.

I know several NYC public school teachers--and they are not "bums" or "vermin". They actually work really hard, stay late and will take work home with them at night. Whether or not you agree with what the raises should be is a separate issue. Sure, there are a lot of lazy, ineffective and negligent teachers that deserve to be fired but labeling them all as worthless really shows a childish simple mindedness.

Clearly, not all the unions are going to get everything they ask for--that's what negotiation is for.

Yeah that's a bit of a stretch. The more appropriate comparison is with Unions and the Mafia. Both threaten to mess up your business or service if they don't get their way. Both are extortion rackets

There are many dedicated teachers, who go above and beyond. Some comment here. One mentioned that he spends thousands of dollars out of his own pocket annually, for supplies that neither the system nor the parents provide to their own students. One bright response suggested that he deduct this on his taxes. Of course, if he doesn't itemize, he won't be able to recoup those few hundred dollars.

Well, teachers don't have the opportunity of kitchen workers, to spit in your food, or of landscapers, to pee in your pool.
Of course, teachers could tell students that their parents are lazy bums, who probably use drugs and steal everything that is not nailed down!

I agree.

No need to hate on teachers. Every union out there want a raise. Teacher should not get a raise. There is not enough money around. Just working hard & doing your job doesn't automatically entitle anyone a raise. Does it stink? heck yeah...that is life.

It ironic no unions supported De Blasio during the race. I believe UFT endorsed Thompson. Now De Blasio owes them NOTHING!!!!
