I know that NY is very expensive
if you have any suggestions... I'm very happy
I suggest you talk in US Dollars. We don't have time or inclination to go look up today's exchange rate
and you will need to know how to convert dollars for your trip anyway.
But since you asked it appears at the top end of 500 euros that is about $155 per day for a hotel--- at that time of year you may want to look at LONG ISLAND CITY Queens-- not a hard commute to Manhattan and you can get more for your money--- one nice place there is the Country Inn and Suites..... I would not even consider anything less than your 500 euros rate as you will not find anything worth staying in unless you get very lucky

I too second the suggestion to stay at a hotel in Long Island City, Queens which is a short commute to Midtown Manhattan.
I had a friend stay at the Yotel Hotel in NYC. I believe it was on 9th or 10th ave in midtown. The rate was around $100 a night. The hotel was very clean and felt like you were on a cruise ship cabin. I am not sure what the current rates are going for. This was about 2 years ago when my friend came to visit.
Why not just go to priceline and name your own price? If you can afford say 150 dollars a night for your hotel, put in 140 and select your areas you'll stay in and star level and you'll get a hotel. You should be able to get a 4 star hotel in midtown for 150. I did it a few years ago.
Also, because this is most likely going to be a vacation and on top of that... it's NYC... I'll just be honest and say... bye bye budget! Whatever you "plan" on spending will be overspent. Most likely by a good amount.
You can also try looking at ads that rent apartments for your stay. Sometimes you can get a better rate that way
