Cause NYC is where everyone wishes they could secretly live either forever, a few months, a few yrs, or live so close can visit anytime. You have people from other states posting or reading cause its NYC. You have people who have moved away and talk negative about it but cant seem to stay away, you have people who complain and judge other people for living in a shoebox apt while they live in a big house in the suburbs YET KEEP POSTING IN NYC forum.
Spoken like a true RE junkie that you are.... who has probably rarely been out of the five boroughs. There are probably more people in the country who would never ever want to live in the city than there are people who would.

Ive traveled the world from Norway, Ecuador, S. Korea, London, Spain, Copenhagen heck even miami and canada, nj if we want to include some places in north america lol. Born and raised in the city sadly it took 23yrs to discover there was more to life than the 5 boroughs. Im in my mid 30's now.
While theres some places in my travels i wouldnt mind living in for a few months, NYC is right for me. Though Oslo and Madrid give it competition.
Do you really think all those people if they were able to live here without issues wouldnt even try it for a few months? To that i must laugh.
This is actually a great point. What I've seen of other parts of this forum is that moderation can at times be extremely heavy handed. Nearly anytime I step outside of the NY sections, I get some kind of infraction.

I was in the Army. Because of this, I have friends from all over the country. Only two ever expressed interest in even visiting NYC.
Living here surrounded by thousands of transplants, it is easy to assume that NYC has some attraction for more people than it really does. The politics of this place alone turn off millions of people. One of my friends refuses to even deal with airport stop overs in the city when he travels to Europe.
Because people in other cities are actually going out and enjoying their urban environments in their spare time, rather than plugging into the cyberwebs.
Why are the NYC threads more vibrant/get more replies than any other city on citydata?
I am not hating by the way, thats cool. When I try to inquire info about other cities or peep their threads it's just so dry or a few responses.
Just curious
And to think that all this time, I thought the NYC threads were more vibrant and full-of-life than other city or regional forums because I participated in them. Now I see there are many other offered reasons which trump my own reasoning.
Oh well! I guess I was self-deluded and thought that I was "all that". Apparently I'm not "all that".
As already stated the Greater NYC area covered a very large population of people besides the fact that there are people whose family backgrounds are very varied which can be one of the influencing factors of the different opinions that one hears in the NYC area (and therefore on the NYC forum).
What Bilmin says! It's just most work and home for New Yorkers then on the computer. It's better online really. You probably wouldn't get much help if you were on the street asking someone for assistance or question. I still think New Yorkers are very harsh.
Exactly. Like the Raleigh-Durham forum, which you can't speak your opinion at all.
