It takes a year to get residency in NY, I'm trying to get a head start so I only have to pay out of state tuition for a semester. Let me know if u can help me.
Here's a suggestion - move here first, work for a year and establish legitimate residency and then go to school after that year. Make sure you know what you have to provide to prove residency- as it's not as easy as just "having an address". If you are registered to vote in NY, have a NY drivers license, have your social security newsletters coming to your NY address etc -- then we're talking.
And NY is actually incredibly generous by only requiring a year's worth of living here to establish residency before offering reduced tuition, so why are you trying to do this?

I never understood why they allow this. My dad would often groan about how his taxes were footing the bill to educate all the Californians and other out-of-staters at my SUNY grad school who left NY with their subsidized educations the day after they graduated. Other states like Michigan and Indiana are so strict it is nearly impossible to get in-state tuition at their public schools.
Trust me. Do not use somebody else's address in New York. Just do what I did, I moved to Indianapolis from New York and just got comfortable with the city and made some money for a year before I started school and playing basketball. It is not that long.
