That would be crazy if that's the case, how a main line under a random building can just open up and obliterate 2 apartment buildings

Like I said yesterday, there will be lawsuits. Lots and lots of lawsuits.

I also read the story today in the paper of a tech who works & lives on the ground floor at the piano shop. He was INSIDE when the whole thing blew up. Everything came crashing down but completely miraculously he was protected in a cocoon of debris, brushed off some materials, and crawled out with just a few minor scratches.

If you've ever owned anything made of cast iron you'd know while the substance is quite strong and durable, it is also very brittle. Sudden changes in temperature, pressure or a few other things can cause cast iron to crack.

During colder months the ground freezes, once things start to warm up the soil can and often does being to shift about as a result of natural forces. This is why you see so many water main and other pipes made from cast iron crack or split in winter through spring.

For the record an old city like NY has miles and miles of cast iron water mains and gas pipes. This particular one was placed back in 1887 IIRC. Other places still have pipes made of wood buried underground. Am sure NYC may have a few of those as well given how long the area has been settled.

God/Allah be Praised! Saw that story as well and it cannot be denied the hand of God/Allah was on that man. Of for those who do not believe, it just simply was not his time to go.

The NTSB investigators are on scene right now and holding a news conference on how they plan to proceed.

It's weird to have the NTSB investigating a building explosion

Because it was close to the metro north tracks, perhaps that's why they're involved.
