I liked the article. Thankfully they did not mention Little India at all. When the Times writers go to Jackson Heights, usually they don't manage to get more than 2 blocks into the neighborhood because they are so entranced by the 2 blocks of Indian stores that are right near the train station. And then they get right back on the train and leave, not understanding that there are about 100 blocks in Jackson Heights that have nothing to do with India.
I have seen other people making this mistake as well -- they get off the train at 74th St., walk 2 blocks, see a bunch of Indian stores, buy their spices, get back on the train, and are under the mistaken impression that they have knowledge of the whole neighborhood.
I've never seen a single hooker or drug dealer anywhere on Roosevelt from QB through Flushing. Maybe they were there in the 80'ies but common let's get with the times
I'm still torn on the BID, but that assertion is nuts. Every other morning I pass by Roosevelt and 82nd at around 6 in the morning or so. I see the hookers all the time. Get propositioned, flashed and in moments of greater levity, they'll joke if the flowers I bought for my wife are really for them. Not talking of the 80's, 90's or 00's. Talking 2014, April.
A new school was supposed to be part of the Willets Point development. Any plans for one? Queens schools are bursting at the seams. We really need another large, college preparatory high school.
