I used to have this same issue of hearing loss on the 7 train a few years back. Even with earphones plugged in the motormen would intentionally turn the gain all the up on their PA systems to deafen the riders. I shouted at them out on more than on numerous ocassions about it, and they always looked befuddled.

I guess chalk it up to lack MTA training and ethnic stupidity.

The MTA is liable in my book, but good luck proving it.
