Hi
My new job is taking me to NY, coming from abroad. My office is located in central Manhattan.
I am married with 3 children, ages 8+6+2.
We could really use some advise, trying to decide where to look for an apartment.
Main concerns are:
Kids education, good public schools for the older ones.
Safe location in city area (not suburbs…).
Not too far from work and not very pricy.
My wife was thinking about Brooklyn…
Any help will be greatly appreciated (not necessary about information about Brooklyn )
There have been many past threads mentioning Bayside Queens as having excellent public schools. Try to search some past threads on this topic. Also, no one can truly give you accurate advice until you list a budget for monthly rental.

bayside is more suburban, far away and no easy access to the subway, not cheap, on top of the fact that too many east asian kids in the school who drive up the competitive pressure to a near toxic level. so i say no for op.

Thanx !
Western Queens - Sunnyside, Woodside are your best bets. East Elmhurst is a longer commute but affordable too.
For Brooklyn it will be tough to find a place within your budget that offers a short commute. My suggestion is to try Prospect Park South or Kensington, but the schools might not be as good in these areas.

Your budget of $3000 is a tough one for all you desire. You will probably have to sacrifice your commute time.
