Would anyone be able to share experiences/info on commuting to NYC via the N6 --> F train (Jamaica)? Going to 57th Street @ 6th Ave, so the F train is very convenient. How long is the commute? Is it common/ safe to go this route? Thanks!!

I take the N6 to the F every day. It's very safe and very common. The bus is always crowded. My only complaint is that it's not 100% reliable meaning if they're ahead of schedule and you miss the bus, you'll be waiting a long time for the next one. Sometimes they're behind schedule for whatever reason and you're waiting a long time. Depending on traffic, it's a 30-40 minute ride on average. If you can catch the express then you're in good shape. It's much quicker because it only makes a few stops.

In the morning I take the train to 179 St but coming home I get off at 169 St. because the bus is PACKED and often times it can't stop at 179 St to pick up more people.

You're welcome! I forgot--just to give you an idea of how long the commute it...I work in Long Island City so I have to switch from the F to the E. If everything is on time and I make all my transfers, I can actually do it in 60-65 minutes but on average it's about 1 hour and 15 minutes. There are days between subway problems and screwed up bus schedules that it has taken me 2 hours. But for the most part it is pretty decent. And it also saves you a lot of money from having to take the LIRR.
