For me Prospect Park is just like a smaller version of Central Park.....I get it BK...you wanna be like your big brother! It's the only park of any size in BK, so no doubt people have to love it.
Think it has more to do with Frederick Law Olmsted.
Whenever I'm in Queens, I like to walk around the Queens Botanical Gardens. It's much, much smaller and not quite so overwhelming as other botanical gardens in NYC.
For the first time today, I had a chance to go to Kissena Park and found it to be quite nice as well. I'm sure it'll be more beautiful when the trees start sporting leaves. Nice place to get some sun, exercise and people watch. Plus it has a big pond where you can watch ducks swimming around.

Prospect Park isn't even the largest park in Brooklyn though.
I think Prospect Park is so well-liked, aside from being large, is because it's very accessible and centrally located and it's just generally a beautiful park. Olmstead felt that Prospect Park was his masterpiece and it really is a pretty great park.
Carl Schurz Park. In my part of town, we really don't have parks like that because of the beach. We just have playgrounds adjacent to schools and NYCHA.

I like little old "Carroll Park" in Carroll Gardens. Small, only a few blocks radius. I just like it.
"Louis Valentino Park" & Pier in Red Hook, also small, nice harbor views.
I saw deers prance around in Pelham Bay Park the other day. I never knew that I could or would have a Bambi experience in the Bronx. For me its either Pelham Bay Park or Van Courtland park as my favorite park due to the fact that both parks seem to be more in touch with nature compared to other parks like Central and Prospect which lost much of its naturality due to people. In Pelham bay park one can go horse back riding through various trails that goes along certain paths.
Ido not find Central Park, McCarren Park Fort Green Park and Prospect park intimate with nature due to crowds of people. I hope the city can build more parks and green space for gentry transient folks who need to experience nature but lacks the ingenuity and will power to visit city fringes which have nature preserves and real forested parks.

Anyone ever visit the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge? It's at Broad Channel in Queens.
I too was wondering about that. So anyone?
