Maybe he was just there to visit and got discouraged after the 30 minute train ride to Williamsburg? Hopefully he or his friends won't be back. We need to keep those effers out of Bay Ridge at all costs people!!!

I saw 3 of them at the Starbucks at 73 St and 3 Ave this past December.

You mean 75th and 3rd ave. Damn, I hope they were just passing by or just wannbe's. Did you say anything to them or give them a dirty look? We need to make them feel like unwelcome outsiders. They are not welcome into Bay Ridge Cot damnit.

Anyways, all this talk of Bay Ridge is making me sad. I wish I were still living there.

Wow, a few hipster faces pop up and everyone is acting like the neighborhood is becoming Williamsburg 2.

Outside the ghetto it gets hard to tell the difference if someone is a hipster/transplant or not. For example, on Austin st in forest hills it can be difficult to tell whether one is from ohio vs a local liberal Jew without striking up a conversation. I imagine that could be the case in bay ridge as well as it is somewhat of a similar neighborhood.

Actually Bay Ridge is nice neighborhood with decent shopping. It also has tolerable rent costs. If you work south of 36th St or west of say Fort Hamilton Pkwy, there are no drawbacks.

It's drawback? If you don't work in those areas you are losing 2 hours of your life each day just commuting. The Belt Pkwy is only fast between 12am - 5am, otherwise it's mind-numbingly slow. And the "R" train? Fuhgeddaboutit. It sucked (b)alls even before the Sandy damage.

Let me sound a little ore reasonable; if you work in Downtown Brooklyn, Sunset Park, or Bay Ridge, jump on it; Bay Ridge is good in every other way.

What about Downtown Manhattan? It's slow but still but many further reaches of outer boros or Long Island.

Just 45 minutes each way to around Union Square. Financial District similar or slightly faster:

and the R train is coming back up, at least you can often get a seat.

My coworker that commutes from Bay Ridge to Lower Manhattan prefers the express bus over the subway.
