I know the subway and airtrain are the cheapest, but they aren't good (inconvenient with transfers and time consuming).
There seem to be more than one companies running airport shuttle buses around the Grand Central--I remember once when I went there, two rival companies "fought" to get me on their buses .
I've heard about but never tried the buses that can pick you up from your home location. Any info on that? Does it cost a lot more?
What is your preferred way to go to JFK airport without spending more than $30 round trip?
If coming from lower manhattan the A train to Howard Beach then taking the AirTrain from there shouldn't be too terrible. During rush hour it beats the traffic on the van Wyck.
Yes this was the cheapest and easiest I've found, other than public transport.
Re taking taxis, I believe there is a rule of fixed $xx and the driver can't charge more than that?
I hope they make the public transportation to the airports easier, without having to transfer (not to mention the walks while transferring).
...how much easier can they make it than the air train, really? lol. The A train drops you off basically inside of the Air Train terminal at Howard Beach, go right upstairs, pop on the air train, and it has stops at every terminal plus every parking area. There are essentially no walks with the transfers there minus walking from where the air train stops into the terminal.
Unless you're looking for something that drops you off literally at the front door of the exact terminal you need. In which case fly out of Laguardia and take the M60. Or just complain about it some more, whichever.
It really depends where you are coming from. If one is in Queens and has too much luggage to use public transportation conveniently (or has problems walking up and down subway station stairs) then car service is really the best option.
Unless you have a lot of luggage--and with all the fees, who travels with a lot of luggage these days?-LIRR out of Penn to Jamaica. Get in the front of train, get out at Jamaica, go up the escalator to the Air Train. Done. The bus may be cheaper but it won't be faster--one traffic jam and you're screwed. Taxi/car service is stupidly expensive. What part of the city are you coming from?
