It belongs in the East River and should have never been moved. The fireworks is a NYC event, and NYC boroughs should have the best views as a result, not New Jersey.
Yaay,
I had an apartment on the Hudson and they moved the fireworks to the East River. I moved to the UES and they moved the fireworks back to the Hudson. I couldn't catch a Roman Candle Break.
So now it will be an easy walk to the East River, IF it happens.
I think I'll host a small party. In this place VERY small.
<When it was in the East River last, what was the Northernmost launching location?>
If it is such a life and death matter why not do the research yourself?
Last time Macy's held the 4th fireworks on the East River was five years ago in 2009. The show was moved to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson discovering the river now named after him.
Northern most location would have been somewhere up around Stuyvesant Town/Baruch Houses area but much below the 59th Street Bridge.
Thanks Bugsy, except for the gratuitous "do the research yourself."
I'm not usually rude and don't expect it from others.
YW. However was not being "rude", just pointing out if the matter was such one of life and death then information could have been easily and quickly found on the Internet. Took me < two minutes and don't even care where they have the thing. Well would have if had plans to go to Staten Island today, but given the weather all BBQs have been moved to Saturday.
Went to Carl Schurz Park waterfront walkway for the viewing along with 10,000 others. The view of the fireworks only shot at the Brooklyn Bridge location was truly pathetic. If you stood on your tiptoes you saw the tops of the postage stamp sized scene.
Only good point was that we didn't camp out...got there at 9:15.
After 2 minutes we walked home and watched on the DVR.
I'm done with fireworks forever.
(Did anyone else feel that Macy's scrimped on this one?)

That park is at E. 86th, yes? WAY too far north for a good viewpoint, IMO!! You and the 10K others
were badly misinformed if you thought it would be a great view.

Naaah, none of us thought it was going to be a GOOD view, but we kinda thought there might be SOME viewing for those not in Brooklyn Heights or in alphabet city.
It was an ugly joke.
Next year Macy's should give the money to a soup kitchen ins6tead of wasting our time with this silly twaddle.
But then Macy's might come up with the brilliant idea of shooting off their fireworks in the Gowanus Canal.
Of course the best view was on TV and they could do that better by skipping the fireworks and simply hiring Deamworks to produce 17 minutes for them.
