ILLEGAL APARTMENT.

Why do you think he cannot evict you? He shouldn't have rented it to you in the first place.

I always wonder why LL rent out illegal apts?

I also wonder why tenants will rent in an illegal apt?

I think it one big headache for both parties.

It's obvious why landlords do it, they want the extra income and hope they will not run into trouble. I think more often than not it works out ok for them.

Most tenants don't care that it's an "illegal" apartment, but if they run into problems, they try to use that as an advantage to get what they want
