Wow, you don't see this as a bad thing? You don't see the injustice or anything broken??
Obviously our society is SICK and DISEASED when a child gets denied equal and fair access to education JUST because of who they're parents happen to be. That's something a child who is brought into this world has ZERO control over.
And you choose to turn a complete blind eye to this and pretend nothing is wrong? This is a sickening post regardless of your political beliefs.

Who your parents are matters in this world. Even in the US.
All have access to public education. The well off just have more options.

That's besides the point; you're stating the facts. Do you really not see this reality as a bad thing, though? That certain people will have greater and better opportunities/quality education based on zip code and family? Again, I'm not arguing against the facts here, but find it hard to not be bothered by this.

Have you not noticed that in nature, one moldy orange will spread its mold all over to the rest of the oranges in a box?
I am not against social equality, diversity, and balance. But in schooling, when you bus dysfunctional kids into good zipcode schools, the expected outcome is that soon that zipcode goes downhill. PS217 is a good example among many others across nyc.
The educational system has to learn to prioritize on the quality of education to foster the proper development of the young minds, not just to be politically correct to make some whiny parents and children happy.
As each decade changes then the demographics of each feeder district changes. BOE can change these areas, but all that changes is who gets bused and who doesn't. Leaving out magnet schools, kids end up as pawns. So what happens is that kids who went to one JHS/MS may end up in different HSs. For some kids its a better school and for some its a worse school. I don't know about now, but back a few decades ago we knew that this redistricting was normal and early on in our JHS/MS years we got the list of magnet schools and many did what they could to get into one of them (at least from my neighborhood). As far as I can remember for those who didn't get into any of the magnet schools, when it did happen over one summer the few that were left either dropped out, went for GED's or did a fake move to another neighborhood. The new line wasn't by zip code, it went down the middle of my street. Thus one side of the street was to go to Midwood and the other side was slated to go to Erasmus.
I believe students should be segregated, not by the color of their skin, not by the size of their parents' wallets, but by their academic achievements and learning abilities. DoE should actively quarantine trouble makers and stop the cancers from spreading.

Fair enough. Why should the more capable students be held back by the inept ones?

I think that's what charter schools have been accused of doing. And apparently Farina and the teachers union aren't too happy about it since they get stuck with the leftovers.
