Jamaica station yeah that would be great if it's a nice area. Would be an easy commute. Never thought of Jamaica to have a suburban feel. I'll ask some friends who live in Queens.
@ Henna I'll research those areas besides the one in the Bronx and Holis which I'm sure is more than an hour commute door to door in to get to Midtown.
I'm not really sure any of the areas listed would be right for you. I was more or less just agreeing with Cida that the resource (Living In column) might be a good general resource overall for you to research at your leisure. Many of the ones I listed actually are in the Bronx.
Does anyone know of a family friendly, safe, culturally diverse neighborhood/ community with affordable homes
There aren't many culturally diverse areas in America. Most American cities are culturally American. The people watch American TV, listen to American music, celebrate Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, etc.
Or did you mean racially diverse? (Which is something entirely different.)

Actually, much of NYC IS culturally diverse. That's why there's a parade celebrating some various heritage about every 5 minutes in NYC. I guess you don't live here. Things have probably changed since you moved away 30 years ago.
@ Cinema Cat no i meant what i said culturally diverse as in there is Caribbean Culture, West African Culture, Irish Culture, Korean Culture. People of the same race can have different cultures in respects to the way they were brought up. If you live in NYC you are in a culurally diverse city many different races and cultures.
@Mistertee Would prefer subway as it is cheaper, however not sure if what i'm searching for is possible within the 5 bouroughs. I would'nt mind Metro North, LIRR, or PAth Train as long as there is frequent enough service and my door to door commute is an hour or less.
In addition to the other things mentioned in the post.
The Bronx will probably be your best bet. Unfortunaly, I'm not that familiar with that borough so I can't recommend any neighborhoods.
300k for a 3 br does seem VERY low though.
Given your budget I assume you're looking at coops... in that case, you might see more availability for 2 br, or junior 4s
Does anyone know of a family friendly, safe, culturally diverse neighborhood/ community with affordable homes (2 to 3 bedrooms, 1.5 bathroom) under $300,000, where the commute to Midtown NYC daily by public transportation door to door is under or approx. 1 hour?
My family consists of stay at home wife with 2 young children (a toddler and a baby) so schools will be in the future. She would like for us to find a home with a yard or private/ gated community with a playground.
I think she is looking for a suburban type of neighborhood because she feels it is safer for the kids. We are both from The Bronx and would like for a neighborhood where our children can play safely without being to worried about a lot of strangers passing freely. Most important is the public transportation commute into the city.
Come on,man, get real.I have never seen such a more unrealistic set of parameters. You are not going to find what you are looking for on a $300,000 budget and a 1 hour door to door commute.
LOl,worried about strangers passing freely ?
At least your other thread was a bit realistic.
