I'm new to Philly, and I plan on visiting NYC in hopefully a few weeks or in a month. I hope to be able to spend a good weekend there. I would like to know some good places to take skyline pictures.
As has already been suggested, you should go to the New Jersey side of the Hudson.
Take the Journal Square bound NJ Path train ($2.50 one-way) and get off at the Newport News Mall stop. Come up to street level and you'll have an excellent view of the skyline across the Hudson River.
Take the Staten Island ferry (free) over to Staten Island. Along the way, you'll have excellent views from the back of the ferry of lower Manhattan skyline.
Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge away from Manhattan. Along the route, are excellent photo opportunities of the skyline.
Find the Stop and Shop on Northern Blvd in Queens. Driver up to their rooftop parking lot. Great view and further back than the direct waterfront sites, so it's more panoramic.
The promenade in Brooklyn Heights and anywhere on Roosevelt Island facing west toward Manhattan. Also facing south around the Resevoir in Central Park, especially at night.
Roof of that fort on Governor's Island, a national park in the harbor, reachable by ferryboat. I mean, I haven't actually been there but the local news got me excited enough to go check it out.
I second this. It offers great view and is romantic setting for couples. I'd also suggest Manhattan sidewalk on BK bridge.
