Sounds like you grew up around the southwest Bronx?

I do know there are PR communities out in NJ, and Conn, and Philly.
Back in 2010, the city was about 8.6% Puerto Rican if I recall correctly. So that means there's a little under 800,000 PR living in the city.

You have to consider that Puerto Ricans who used to live in areas like East Harlem or the LES didn't necessarily leave the city. A lot of them moved out to areas like Staten Island. (Plus, there still is a sizable PR population in those neighborhoods. It's just that it might be 30-40% instead of 50-60% like it was back in the day)

Mexicans aren't South American.

And the oldest one, of all the others.......they started coming here about 1940....

Seems the topic of PR/Italian has been discussed here before://www.city-data.com/forum/u-s-t...ulation-6.html
