Building Blocks Play Group , The Art Farm , The House Of Little People , all provide high quality care and education without the madness, the elitism and the extreme cost of the '1%' pre-k's.

Sorry to burst your bubble but this pattern is being repeated in London, Paris and even as far a afield as Tokyo. I cant see this changing any time soon.
The competition for these sort of schools has always been there. The only change is that more people want to live in Manhattan and who can blame them when hours at work have increased. If you can afford it, its the only sensible option. Its either that or your children will always be asleep by the time you get home.
I bought a home close to downtown to be near amenities (shopping, museums, galleries etc), but mainly because of the fact I didnt want to work from say 8 am to 8 pm and be home at 9:30 (10 pm if there are any delays) with only 1-2 hours of relaxation time, before I'd have to go to bed.
