I tend to think that the above impressive matriculation stats of the few selected nyc private school is inevitabbly helped by the reputation of these schools and their longterm connections with top colleges which make their students on the short list of many top colleges. All else equal, a student from dalton will likely get picked by harvard vs a student from edison high achool in nj.
Plenty of NYC elite private schools are feeders to ivy leagues and other top non ivy league colleges.

This is stupid. You should raise your own kids and not send them off to be raised and indoctrinated by others with a different agenda in schools whether preschool or high school.

With that said, if people want to spend money to get their kids in preschools so be it. It doesn't harm me so peace be to them.

The 'elite' schools will revise tuition downward only too late to avoid being displaced by pre-k's where the emphasis was always on quality care and education in a stress free, nurturing environment. Building Blocks Play Group , The Art Farm , The House Of Little People , all provide high quality care and education without the madness, the elitism and the extreme cost of the '1%' pre-k's.

Sorry to burst your bubble but this pattern is being repeated in London, Paris and even as far a afield as Tokyo. I cant see this changing any time soon.

The competition for these sort of schools has always been there. The only change is that more people want to live in Manhattan and who can blame them when hours at work have increased. If you can afford it, its the only sensible option. Its either that or your children will always be asleep by the time you get home.

I bought a home close to downtown to be near amenities (shopping, museums, galleries etc), but mainly because of the fact I didnt want to work from say 8 am to 8 pm and be home at 9:30 (10 pm if there are any delays) with only 1-2 hours of relaxation time, before I'd have to go to bed.
